steering wheel

My steering wheel works and functions like it should, but the horn and cruise control have stopped working. Recently I have seen shavings of plastic on the floor and have felt them fall when wearing shorts. A couple of days ago the shavings are now copper, so the wires inside are being chewed up and my drivers side turn signal isn't flashing in the dash, but not sure if its not working at all.
Do I have to replace my steering wheel or can I have the wiring redone? Should I just go get a new steering column?

clockspring replacement is most likely needed (not a big job, just take your time and rent the steering wheel remover from autozone), dorman makes an aftermarket check rockauto

Rock Auto doesn't sell clock springs. Thanks though
