Steering/Suspension Overhaul
Hey guys. So im planning on a big project. ive had death wobble for quite some time its slightly better than when i began due to a new track bar and steering stabilizer however it does occasionally happen and my steering is still quite loose and sloppy. I also hear metallic clanging when i go over a bump at the right speed which tells me...stuff be loose!
Now based on a visual inspection i can see the universal joints in the axle shafts are about to explode, the ball joints are missing the rubber. I can safely assume theyre bad or nearly bad, and i havent jacked it up to test the wheel bearings but since im replacing everything else in that area some fresh wheel bearings wouldnt hurt. I also am replacing every tie rod end and the drag link as well.
The only thing that would be left after this would be control arm bushings and im mostly avoiding that due to how much of a headache it looks like and not having access to a press.
So im trying to get ready and get information before hand.
13mm 12 point socket for wheel hub bolts
36mm for axle nut
22 and 32mm sockets for castle nuts on ball joints.
Any other tools for this job?
Anyone have a list of the torque specs for the suspension components?

For the steering linkage I have found this tool from harbor freight as good if not better than a pickle fork for getting things apart. With this you can get things apart and save the seals if need be.

For the wheel bearings you will want a good chisel and BFH to get them separated. There are some good utube videos.
For the universals the BFH and sockets will get them out.
I have not tackled the ball joints yet. For those you will want a press. Either borrow it from the local parts store or buy one from harbor freight. This can also be used for the universals.
as for the torque specifications Morris 4x4 has a good knowledge base that may have some information as the front axle has not changed in years http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowled...ex.htm#service
It took me most of a day to just do the wheel bearings and the universal joints.

Not a fan of morris 4x4. Me and the owner had a bit of a falling out. They have pretty much zero knowledge experience or support for renixes.

Sorry to hear that you have had issues with them.
I have not needed to discuss issues or options with their technical support. I have used their knowledge base of jeep and other documents to answer questions for myself and then order parts based on my investigations.
The technical material posted in their knowledge base should provide the torque specifications you need as the D30 has not changed over the years.

Might wanta change your bushings also because if all your t.r.e. and joints are that bad i could only imagine how bad your bushings are. Stock arms are only around 30dollars i think. Still hafta press the uppers in the axle though. I had DW and replaced all my CA bushings ,track bar, and two t.r.e. and its completly gone. If your gonna get a new steering stabilizer also i would replace everything your gnna replace first and test drive it without a stabilizer to make sure you actually solved your problem because a stabilizer is just gonna mask the problem.
