Steering Issues

OK to start off with i have a 6 inch lift from Rough Country but i have a Spacer so it is at eight have my arms adjusted out to fit the eight inches of lift although my passenger side axle mount is starting to buckle so i have a mount from ballistic coming. Also i have stock steering linkage with drop pit man arm on it. Have a brand new trac bar from Rustys offroad that is ment for 8 inches.

Now to my problem my car is really squirrelly it will drive completely straight than hit a bump and than it will take off left or right and the steering wheel with than have slop so it feels like there is no steering for about half a turn i think it maybe my gear box or the drop pitman arm but wanted your ideas first.

um what size are your tires? and with all that lift please tell me you have at least a steering box brace? and did you put on an aftermarket steering stabilizer? if not that could help...maybe do two. i know rustys makes an extra stabilizer bracket....

post a pic of your front end. it sounds like your draglink and tracbar angles are out of whack causing the truck to steer to one side when you hit a bump. also if you can turn your steering wheel 1/2 a turn before anything happens you might need to adjust your steering box or replace it.

You were right i thought that maybe an issue and got hold of rough country and found out that their drop pitman arm is meant for 4 to 6 inches of lift so i either need to buy a bigger one or ream out the top of my knuckles and move the TREs to the top. I may still end up needing the bigger drop pitman arm but i will do the high steer first and see if that helps.

You have two issues here. One is that you are running a drop pitman arm and you did not say you dropped the frame end of the track bar, so you will have a classic case of bump steer. You need to do one of two things. Drop the frame end of the track bar or go to a high steer kit with appropriate relocation on the axle for the track bar. Second, adjust your steering box and make sure it is tight on the frame.

Sorry I forget yes i do have a frame drop for my track bar. So do i still need to go to the high steer or do i just need a pitman arm because from the research i am doing i lookes like i just need to get a 3 inch drop pitman over the one rough country gave me with my original 6 inch lift
