Steering Column Problems

I have a 87 waggy. My problem is thatthe tilting column is loose. The mechanic tighten it somehow, but told me that is worn out and I wil need a new one. I'm a BIG man, so I need it to tilt. A cousin of mine has and old oldsmobile (same year, 87) and they told me the column might work for me. Can somebody clear that for me???

They are both Saginaw columns, you'll have to check the electrical plugs and the length. Moth everything like the ignition cylinder and turnsignal switches can be swapped, so the length and couplers would be the only concerns.

The column basically would work, but because of length differences between dash to firewall, distance to wheel and coupler at gear, there would be "differences". These could all be adapted and/or modified, but the labor and time involved could make the price of a salvage yard column look much better.:icon_biggrin: Russ
