Steering Column

I need to know if a 1994 Cherokee steering column will work in a 1989 Cherokee.

Thank you.

It will require some altered wiring as the 89 has a GM column and the 94 has a Cryco column.

Just source a good used unit from that time frame and it would be MUCH easier, IMHO!!

COS is right but you can rebuild yours too. I think all the parts are still available to do it but the instructions in the FSM seem a little complicated.

I rebuilt a GM column with tilt out of a Cutlass and it was a MAJOR PITA!! If you can find a good used one, that is the route to go, IMHO.

jonstill if you are looking for a column in a JY you may check on the GM columns from the same period as they were very similar and would easily interchange as the parts are sourced from the GM catalog.

I believe the 94's are GM-based yet. Not sure if it was 95 or 96 when they switched.

I just found a replacement for my 1989 XJ column. I was given a print-out of the direct replacements for my automatic, floor shift, tilt column. They are:

1985-1990 Cherokee
1985-1990 Comanche
1985-1990 Wagoneer

I purchased a stick shift non tilt column and it's different. So I finally found an amazing column for $37.99 on car-part.com Tell us what you find?
