Steering bushing

So the other day while I was driving the steering wheel locked up and then released itself. There is a lot of play one second then super tight the next someone told me to check the bushing at the firewall? Anyone got suggestions

How's the steering feel when the engine is on but it is sitting still ?

I'm kinda wondering if this is the power steering pump starting to fail, versus something binding. That's how mine started. It would lose assist at idle, or suddenly when letting off the gas in a turn which was exciting when I suddenly needed both hands cranking hard on the wheel to avoid running off the road.....

It could be a loose belt or maybe a bad crank pully .

I had a power steering failure, it was intermittent at first. the steering didnt actually lock, but it became very very difficult to turn when this happened (33x 12.5 mud tires)

of course make also sure your key lock steering lock is not being activated.

This can be a huge safety issue, deal with it ASAP. loss of power steering, specially if sudden and unexpected, can get people kilt.
