Steam whistle sound/whine???

Steam whistle sound/whine???
the other day I turned the heater on to see how well it worked since I have never used it. And as soon as I turned it to high and then cycled through the vent positions, defrost, vents and floor i started to get a steady sound like a steam whistle but in more of a whining pitch ever 5 seconds in the left front of the dash any ideas?
