Rebuild a starter? A new one is only about $50-60.

The main thing you can do is replace the brushes, but I have looked for a rebuild kit and have had no luck. Now I just buy mine from the jy,sometimes I have found almost new starters, about $20 vs $140. Have had good luck with them, but I do keep a spare because they are used.

Not really worth it but if you really want to, get something like Haynes Automotive Electrical Manual with step by step pictures and go for it.
