Start. Question for those who really know.
 

1985 Jeep Cherokee. 2.5 liter, carbed. 4 cyl.

I want to put in a push button start or toggle switch start into my project.

But what I want and what you are thinking right now are absolutely different.
Im almost sure of it.

Plain and simple I want to make the engine run. Nothing else really. I do want the alternator to run and keep the battery charged.

No Acc. No dash components no headlight. I plan on wiring those later.

But every where I look and ask, they tell me the same thing. That I still need to turn my keys and then engage the switch.

I want to be able to trash the keys and make it run.

I know this has to be possible. Due to the fact that it is a Carburetor-ed engine, and does not rely on crap like computers and electronics to work.

But yet I was wondering, switches and relays, is there some way to re-wire the ones that were already in the jeep to the switches?

Your gonna need a wiring diagram for sure. Once you have that its as simple as finding out what wires power what and hooking switches to them to connect them to battery power instead of using the stock switch.

Whatever you do remember to properly fuse every circuit you put in. by eliminating the factory ign switch youll probably end up bypassing most of the fuse block so adding your own fuses for protection is a MUST!
