Stalling in forward gears

Engine: 4.0 HO
Stalling in forward gears
I have a 95 jeep Cherokee sport 4.0 with Aw4 transmission. I can creep it along in forward gears at around 1500rpms but as soon as I give it gas and get it up to 2000rpms it stalls out. But I can dig 6 inch holes in the dirt in reverse. I cant seen to figure it out. Please help.
