The stock speaker size in my 2000 xj is 5.25" for the doors and rears. I just replaced all four oem speakers. Other sizes may fit, but the stock size is 5.25".

When you guys are saying sound bar, do you mean in the headliner at the back end?
I don't even see how they come off of there, I don't see any screws at all.
I didn't take mine apart yet, but the "grilles" in my door panels, on my 98 4door, look tiny. I have to pull mine to see what I have. I need to replace all 4 of mine.

I'm trying to figure out if the door speakers in my 2000 XJ limited are blown to all hell or if the door panels are just rattling like crazy. Anyonw know how to pin this one down?

Pretty sure there's no way to do it without taking off the panels, which sucks, because if they weren't rattling before I take them off, they probably will afterward.

Either way it sounds like complete crap. Wasn't planning on overhauling the sound system this quickly, but it may have to happen soon, or I'm going to lose my mind.

Rear speakers in headliner - the grills pull off, no screws, use a plactic knife to gently pry them off enough by the edges to get your fingers under them. The speakers themselves are atached with 2-screws.

Blown speakers, if they still work, sound "raspy", if you are familiar with the sound, it is easy to tell. Blown tweaters sound schrilly. You can also feel a blown speaker. Push the driver cone in and out. It should feel smooth. If it feels rough at all, the speaker is blown. Difficult to describe this with words. The other test is to use a known good speaker and see if the bad sound goes away.

If you're unsure, I am going to do a complete write up here as soon as crutchfield delivers my head unit. I will do a how to with pics for speaker and stereo front and rear.

6.5 in the door, 5.25 in the rear roof sound bar.

I like write ups! Always something to learn!
I forgot about crutchfield. They have been out a long time!

mithuth, Did you ever do that write up? I'd really like to see it if ya did as it would help me tremendously before tearing into my audio system.
