speaker issue?
Have a '98 XJ with stock radio.
Sounds like the front passenger speaker is either blown or has a wiring issue.
Are XJ's known for speaker wiring issues or pretty safe bet if I put new speakers all-around that I'll be getting good sounding tunes again?

Yep the wiring in the 98-99 Cherokee is crap. I would replace the speakers and run new wires because you can get good speakers for around $60-$100. It's really easy to run new wires. Back deck speakers seem to be issue free.

You probably have wiring issues in the boot between the body and door. Its a common problem with the XJ. Take the door panel and kick panel off and work the boot one way or the other to get a look at the wiring. Dont cut the boot. Speakers can cut out and power door locks and windows may work intermittantly when those wires start to go. Check that before replacing your speakers or anything else.
