Spark plug wires

Can someone recommend some good spark plug wires?

MSD Super Conductor 8.5MM.......<50 ohms resistance per foot and excellent noise suppression.

Thanks

If you are looking for an upgrade Taylor wires are hard to beat for the money (~$25-$35 for 8mm, ~$35-$45 for 8.2mm).

The MSDs djb383 recommended are good to but I'm not sure that they are enough better than the Taylors to justify being double the price (~$70-$80): http://www.summitracing.com/search/y...43637%2B400122

If you are just looking for stock replacements, just about any "Premium/Pro" grade wires will do, just avoid the really cheap ones.

What is the ohms resistance per foot for the Taylor wires? If it's more than 50 ohms per foot, then that alone explains most of the price difference. The lower the resistance, the more electrical energy gets to the spark plug from the coil.

The 8.2mm ThunderVolt wires ($38-$44) are 50 ohms per foot (per Summit's site, Taylor's own site claims 40 ohms per foot) just like the MSDs. The 8mm Spiro-Pro wires ($36-$37) are 350 ohms per foot and the 8mm Street Thunder ($25) are 500 ohms per foot.

Why does my FSM state that the ignition cables are supposed to be 3,000 Ohms/Foot Minimum and 12,000 Ohms/Foot Maximum?

djb383 12-28-2014 12:56 PM

Doesn't the FSM also say 10W30 motor oil? 5W30 or even 0W30 would be better, no?

So now the OP has recommendations for 2 brands of top quality spark plug wires with <50 ohms resistance per ft. He also knows now what to look for in a top quality spark plug wire (low ohms resistance AND superior low noise).

Mopar tune up kit, can't beat the price and quality...

The FSM does list 5W-30 as well as 10W-30. I don't think 0W-30 was considered. Chrysler's newer engines use 5W-20.

djb383 12-28-2014 06:30 PM

......and I would bet Chrysler would prefer 0W20 but they r not going to require/insist on synthetic, which 0W20 would be.

The fact is that a 4.0 in stock form isn't a power house gas dumping power monster that needs a extremely hot spark. Stock wires come in at around 4-6k ohms, and they run fine. Never fouled a plug on mine at least...

Is lower resistance better? Yes
Is a hotter spark better? Yes
Is it necessary? No

I put a set of these on mine today along with echlin cap and rotor

Belden wires from NAPA always served me well when dealing with a stock 4.0. With my MSD coil and 0.050" iridium plugs, I'm using 8.5 mm Magnecore wires.
