Spare Driveshaft for the trail...

OK... this may sound crazy. But I hear some of ya'll saying that you take one front drive shaft with you on the trails in case one breaks. In comparing my front and rear driveshaft, they are different. I have a 242 with a HnT...

both drive shafts have the pivot ball on them, but the drive flange (drive shaft yoke) where it goes into the transfer case is different on the front and rear...

any ideas... ???????? im lost

Sounds to me like you have a double Carden on the front but not on the rear..

RenoXJ 11-18-2008 02:23 PM

hey nick. actually it is double cardan front and rear. thats why im confused.

If you could take a pic of the T-case front and rear. Might just be a different setup.

I'm still new here, but I think it is when you install a SYE and use a front driveshaft on the rear also.

Could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Your right keven. I have that. But my driveshafts are different at the transfer case yoke.

There are a couple of different rear outputs for the SYE.

ktmracer419 11-18-2008 05:58 PM

hd sye allows me to run a front shaft in the rear

Yeah that's the HnT setup, it's different from a regular SYE setup. Unfortunately you cannot put a front shaft in the rear so you will have to find another shaft similar to the rear.

RenoXJ 11-20-2008 04:20 PM

so WTF is this rear drive shaft that I have ??

muddeprived 11-20-2008 05:42 PM

looks like a flanged driveshaft.

Ookay.. what is the "flanged" drive shaft out of ?? is it custom?? im lost :(

93XJLI 11-23-2008 12:04 PM

its a 1310 flange adapter since you have a flange output on the rear of your tcase. the front is a yoke, hence no "flat plate" mounting style. a stock XJ front DS will work for both front AND rear provided you have that adapter you can throw on the rear if need be.
