Default Sorry to Bug, but How much is this Jeep Mud Bogger worth?

Hey guys, a friend recommended this site to me when I asked him about the value of this Jeep. To make a long story short, my neighbors husband was caught cheating on her, so to get even shes selling his toys to get even. Now I didnt buy the jeep as of yet, but Im letting her keep it in my backyard for the meantime, until I can get some funds together to buy it. I dont know anything about jeeps, I dont know anything about mods or even the year of the Jeep. I am wondering if someone could put a ball park figure on the overall value of this thing by eyeballing it and then we can go from there. She is asking 3500 for it. Thanks guys:

$500 and $20 for a car wash!

Seriously, 3500 is a great deal for that. The cage work looks awesome, and would be a great build platform for one nasty rock crawler, considering that the cage is supporting the unibody enough that 1 ton axles could be ran under it. A jeep like that on Craigslist or Ebay will sell quickly.

Until you find out more about it I wouldn't offer that much at all.

You need a lot more info before buying some one else's project who know it could have been there money pit nightmare.

To me, $3500.00 is a little steep. You don't know anything about it, maintenance history, problems, etc..., and there could be plenty. It looks as if it gets beat on pretty hard, so there could be damage that isn't apparent at first glance. I would rather buy a stock XJ, and do all of those mods myself, so I know what I have when I'm done, but that's just me. I take my rig out into some very remote places, and I want to know that it will get me home. Good luck, keep us posted on what you do!!

True, what he said. What's the year, engine size, rear axle, tranny?
The renix motors (pre-91) are inferior to the later 91 HO's.
Stay away from the Peugot BA10 tranny.
If it has a Dana 35 rear axle, it will need to be replaced.
If you stay with the stock axles, keep in mind that they are only 1/4 ton axles. That cage in itself weighs probably close to 500 lbs. so your maxed out in weight capacity already. The axles will not withstand hardly any throttle, so be careful with it if you do buy it and wheel.

3500 seems a little high and you never know if that guy will come after you for stealing his jeep ever though you bought it so be careful of what you get your self in to when buying something like that, find out more about it and people can tell you more

ps: lasergo that is a snorkel so you can go through deep crap and still let your engine breathe

+1 on that. That would be the main thing I would be concerned about. That situation really sounds like something I would want to stay as far away from as possible. Especially considering you live very nearby.

Stay away from it. That kinda transaction looks far too iffy. Put that $3500 into a stock XJ.
