Someone tried to steal Jeep, now can't start it (pictures)
Someone tried to steal my '99 Grand Cherokee. It starts for two seconds and dies. Sentry Key light flashes a few times past the bulb test and then stays on. They broke out part of my dash. Is there something they cut that keeps it from recognizing my sentry (original, grey) key?
Thanks for any help

Edit:
I will copy and paste from google to save myself some time:
"Once a key is inserted into the ignition lock and turned to one of the 'on' or 'run' positions, the induction coil that is mounted around the ignition lock sends out an electromagnetic field of energy. The windings in the transponder chip absorb that energy and power the electronic chip to emit a signal."
From the pictures it looks like there is a group of copper wires cut right on the outside of the ignition. That would be the induction coil (fancy name for loop of wire) for the chip in your key. The length of wire and number of windings determine the electromagnetic field created.
You may be able to repair it yourself, but it would be better if you have insurance that will cover the damage.

I thought it might have something to do with that, sorta why I posted the pics. Thanks for your time. I have liability only so I'll see what I can do myself.
