SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!! Need real answers

I just purchased a 1998 jeep cherokee classic with the 4.0l which is blown. I need help finding a site or someone who has knowledge with swap information.. I am wondering what years of the 4.0l will work to swap in, long block only..
we need a technical page of just motor swap information.. such as what year motors will work and what vehicles they are compatible with.. i found a 95 jeep grand cherokee motor but am not sure if that will fit in my 1998 jeep cherokee classic.
Someone please help.. just looking for range of 4.0l that will fit and from what vehicles they will fit from THANKS A MILLION!!

I would go with any XJ 4.0 from 1991 up. Just swap your intake/exhaust and sensors on any non-renix 4.0. 1991-2001. Not sure if the Grand 4.0 is the same though. Don't see why not.

its an awfully easy swap me and my buddy are doing one right now.
there is a total of like 8 plugs on the entire engine then just unbolt all the big stuff (tranny, ac, power steering, airbox) and yank it out would prolly be easier taking the header panel off.

and you can use any motor from '91-'99 cause in '00 they switched to coil on plug and a different intake.

citymotorsupply.com is where I went but you may be to far away for them to ship.

i would try to stay away from a zj 4.0 because that would probably have more wear and tear on the engine due to the fact that its a heavier vehicle than the xj

well thanks for the help.. guess i am kind of up in the air about some of the answers because i thought they changed the heads in 1999.. and for some reason when i look around at replacement motors they always say 96-98 is there a reason for that?

That is not true at all the ZJ is only 130 lbs heavier than an XJ.:smartass: I used a '95 ZJ engine with 90,000 on it in my '92 XJ and it went in buetifully. Just make sure you get the ECU and the wiring harness.

i wouldnt need the wiring harness or ecu if i am only using the long block would i? and idk if a 95 grand cherokee motor would work in my 98.. idk what changed throughout the years
