Small Rust problem on bottom of doors
 

Hey everyone, i have a small rust problem on the inside part on the bottom of the doors that i would like to keep from getting worse, i have to routes i would like to take. Theres just a little bit on the bottom of all 4 doors and tailgate, and i'll have enough free time tonight to do either of the following.

1. Remove the old rust by hitting it with the wire brush, sanding it, and then hitting it with some rustoleum or something of that sort to basically get rid of it.
2. Putting grease on the bottom of the door to prevent it from getting worse.

If 1, how many coats and approx. how much will it cost.

If you are good at body work, which I am not, I would sand all of the rust off completly and put a couple of coats of POR-15 over the rust... This stuff is pretty tough, but it cant stand UV light so that is where the Rustoleum comes to play... Put a couple coats of that stuff over the top and you should be good to go for more abuse...

POR- 15 is a little salty though, but many people will say that it is worth it.

the rust is on the inside of the door and wont be in sunlight very often, i wanted to go with Rustoleum because i could get it in a color that comes close to matching body color.. but i may do the POR-15 route also.. there isnt alot of rust on it, just surface, wont take long to grind off so body work wont be an issue... any idea on an exact price/can i get it at walmart(im driving home from work for the weekend and will prob only be able to hit up a walmart for supplies)

Sand it get all of it, You may have to cut it out if it is too bad. then paint it and you are good. Check out my build link at the bottom to see how I handled my rust.

Fortunately i dont think i'll have to be doing any cutting or replacing, i just want to stop it before it gets to that point.

On a side note, has anyone tore the carpet out of the cargo area and rhino lined the cargo area or where i can get a rubber mat to lay back there?

wire brush the loose stuff off. And spray rust converter on it let it dry 24hrs then hit it with the same color paint. its on the bottom inside part of the door nobodys gonna see it so your good. :thumbsup:

Thats actually where i got the idea.. i thought that you just had the carpet up showing the rhino lining, not cut out but now that i look at it i see that.. lol

got the rust grinded out, wasnt much there.. hit it with some rust convertor and letting it dry over night.. tomorrow i need to run to the store and get some paint and rhino liner(im going to rhino line underneath the trim most likely) and i need to get the paint to fix a dent/scrap from the PO
