Slipping Transmission.

Hey. I have a 2000 jeep cherokee classic, inline 6. And the transmission slips when I slightly turn the wheel to the right and sometimes to the left. But it reacts right away whether I'm turning or just steering on a straight road. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. I'm wondering if could be related to faulty wiring getting moved around when I turn the wheel. Levels are good and no check engine lights. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

When's the last time you checked the fluid?

Why do you think it's the transmission? How can you tell it's slipping?

Yeah I've checked the fluids a couple times and had it diagnosed and they said they couldn't find anything so that tells me that it isn't the levels and it only happens on occasion. It isn't leaking either. It's most common between 50 and 70mph. It'll run normal around 2500 rpms and then jump up to 3000 if I move the steering wheel slightly to the right. And jump back and forth depending on the position of the steering wheel. I only have to turn it a little and it'll slip.

Gauges are FUBAR, what happens when you pound on the dash?

Does your horn or cruise work when this happens?

Clockspring has ground involvement with the TPS.

I'm not sure if it does it in reverse. I've never gone 60mph backwards.........

It has slipped after hitting a bump on occasion. I tried hitting the dash the other day and nothing happened.

Are you sure it's slipping and not just unlocking torque converter? The brake switch (same signal that illuminates brake lights and cancels cruise control) unlocks the torque converter. This sounds like an electrical issue and not necessarily a fluid/trans issue.

^^ Take a look at the brake pedal switch.

If it's the break switch then how would the position of the steering wheel be affecting that?
