Default Siphoning gas from tank & removing filler tube

Nothing without a hitch...
Tube will not go into tank through filler tube on my 99.
Can I remove the filler tube by undoing the bolts at the gas cap location without harming it? If so, do you happen to know if that method will allow me access to siphon the tank past whatever is blocking me now?
Tank needs to come off and it's at 7/8 full or so.
Thanks, tracy

You have to wiggle-n-giggle the hose a bit, but it works every time.

Loosen the hose clamps at the tank and gently pry the hoses off.

Thanks, this is actually what I'm trying to use but there is definitely something stopping the tube about 14" in through the filler.

Re: removing hoses...can I expect a huge (dangerous) mess? I don't mind..just not sure how system works enough to anticipate it. Thanks

Like I said, ya gotta play with it for a while to get by the baffle. Be patient, you'll get it.

Leave the hoses alone until you're ready to drop the tank. There's less of a chance of getting dirt in it that way.

If you can't get it, use a transmission jack under the tank when you drop it. Huge help.

K,

I take it you've determined the pump is defective and you are moving ahead changing it.

Yessir. Er, at least I ordered the pump in anticipation. Went with a Bosch.

At any rate, I wanted everything prepped - supposed to get here Weds. Somewhat embarrassed that I can't manage to siphon OR disconnect *#@^! FP harness. THAT will be getting some screwdriver persuasion soon.

Unplugging that connector can be a *****. I struggled with mine.

Make sure you spray some lube on the locks before attempting to unlock them.

In one hand depress the black lock, with the other hand hold the connector assembly, with the third hand use a small screw driver to pry the two apart,

Finally found time to get back on this mess. So for the sole purpose of following up for other (mechanically uninclined) peeps searching for same answer....I admit that I hoped I could use gravity to empty tank thru fuel feed line as suggested in Haynes. But either I didnt jack it high enough or that doesnt work with my single line system (no return line I believe). So, I managed to get the worm clamp off the smaller of the filler lines (from fuel cap to tank) but still couldnt get that rubber hose disconnected From tank. Committed to replaclacing it and sliced it just past the tank's inlet and stuck my siphon in there. So far so good.
