Silly question
My 2001 cherokee started to over heat today. I thought it might have had ice in the hoses (couldn't tell because it wasn't me driving). I came home and pulled the lower hose from the rad and warm water poured out. Changed the thermostat and put her back together but when I went to fill the system with coolant, it would only take about 1/2 gallon. I ran it to try to pump some coolant into the block and just keep filling but the coolant doesnt seem to be circulating. Do I need to bleed the system (if so, how do I do that) or do I have a water pump shot? The water pump isn't leaking. I just replaced a water pump on my pick up because it was streaming coolant onto the ground. When I filled the truck, I just left the hose off of the outlet and it pushed air out until it was full. Any thoughts are appreciated.

you can remove the temp gauge on the thermostat part what ever you call it.. and it ll burp the system if you think you have air trapped in it..
or.. you can run it til it gets hot, keep your fill bottle filled up with 50/50 coolant, after a couple days.. it ll burp itself and you ll be set.
