Side Trim Peeling Off
My 1994 XJ Ive noticed has a peeling side trim as well as the window moldings, except for the very rear of the Jeep, so only near the A B and C pillars. Has anyone had the same issue? I couldnt find it in the search.

I remember we had a family XJ. It was a 94 model same thing on that door trim. My dad used electrical tape and that made a great looking fix had to redo it about once a year but it looked like new unless you were right on top of it.

I had the same problem. I bought new outer window trim, the lower pieces, from chrysler a few years ago. Was expensive and each piece came from different warehouses in the US. My parts guy chuckled and said they might be the last pieces of trim (that fit 87's) in the country ..just a guess, of course. About the best you can do is let them peel or help them peel off the black plastic. They look better bright silver anyway (IMO). Maybe there's an aftermarket supplier now (??).
I hate when mfgrs do crap like that ...go the supposed 'extra effort' to make something a certain way, like black-out plastic-covered metal trim ...or spray-on rubberized interior parts that a lot of cars have, which eventually wear away or peel and look and feel like total crap after 10 years. But what are ya going to do...

It's possible that the Plasti Dip I got was just bad but my experience with the stuff means I won't use it again. I had it on my old car and it just faded, started to rub away and was a nightmare to remove when I wanted it gone on another project I used it on.

From the picture, she's talking about the bottom trim just above the cladding. I'd use Krylon paint for plastic. If you do both sides, there's no need to leave the white border between the strips and the lower cladding. Nobody except a perfectionist would notice. Nice looking jeep, BTW.

I agree with Dave, and i have no idea why they used that tape strip on the lower body. I wouldnt paint over it, it's gonna look like boiled ***.
With plastic razor blades(available at most parts stores/paint supply shops) and patience you can peel the old stuff off. Ive done this several times without damaging the paint. Mask it off, scuff it, hit it with Krylon Satin Black. Dont pile it on, med dust coats till its covered. It'll look better than new.
The window trim is another story, its a beast of a job peeling that crap off. Never dealt with it on a jeep, but foxbody mustangs have the same problem. I removed the trim, sanded all the black crap off, acid etch primer, Rustoleum matte black paint.
Stay away from Plastidip, that stuff is garbage.
