side mirror glue?
 

I am replacing the glass on my passenger side view mirror.

What kind of adhesive should I use to make sure it doesn't fall off? It looks like the factory used big clearish colored blobs of glue but I have no clue what they would be?

I don't know what's "normal". 5 minute JB weld is handy stuff (to have left over as well). If both surfaces have some "teeth", once that's set it should be plenty strong. Just some scuffing from some 100 grit, or even 200 grit sand paper should do. If it's warm and dry it really will set in 5 minutes. Still I might wrap electrical tape with some sort of spacer to press in on it. (besides the JB weld, there is cheaper 5 minute, two part epoxy)

Also I've been experimenting with that E6000 poly glue. It takes way longer to set, but seems to be pretty neat stuff.

I used double-stick foam tape from Staples when my "clearish blobs" decided to stop holding it one day. It was the nearest store, and I needed that mirror back in place! I also picked up a box of alcohol swabs to clean the surfaces. Once I was back out to the car with the stuff, the job took maybe two minutes.

That was... about 8 months ago, and it's holding fine. Solid as a rock.

I strongly recommend AGAINST using JB Weld, or any other epoxy, simply because it will work TOO well. You'll never get it off without breaking things.

:lol: Good point Mark! Come to think of it, it seems I've seen that double sided foam tape used there before. (I'll just go glue my helmet to the ceiling now) :hammer:

Glass shop charged me $15 for a new mirror installed, have no idea what that stuff is they use for glue. All they do for a new one is use a template to cut one out of a piece of scrap then run the edges around a sander and glun it on, 10 min. in and out.

You could call and ask if they would glue yours in and for how much, or what glue they used.
