Smile Shorter driveshaft needed

Hi there.
I own a 1991 Cherokee Laredo 4.0 inline HO. I am thinking of replacing my current rear dana 35 with a dana 44 axle from a cherokee year made 1988.
i was told that is a direct replacement, with no suspension parts relocation etc. However I was also told that The Dana 44 pinion is about an inch longer than the Dana 35 pinion, so technically I'll need a driveshaft that's an inch shorter. My question is where can I find a shorter driveshaft how do I look for it and what shuold I know before i start. Is it a dificult procedure?
Thank you.

Well if I get a chance I'll measure for you. I have a 89 with the D35 in the rear and a parts rig with the D44 in the year. I'm planning on doing the D44 swap into my 89' this weekend..

I just check the length of the driveshaft on both jeeps and it is the same so...yes that is what i am going to do.I own te jeeps so I can take whatever I need.I am sure that i currently have a dana 35 on the back so what I was told about the lenght issue is probably wrong..(you know the inch difference).UNless I am wrong about the type of rear axle I am going to get...wich I am sure I am not because of the drain/fill metal plug...right?

there is definitely a difference in driveshaft length between the dana 35 and dana 44.
not sure about the 8.25 and dana 35 tho.

8.25 and d44 are both almost an inch longer.

you can safely use the shaft out of an 8.25 or 44 equipped xj on your 44.

if an sye is in your plans you can do that at this time and buy a 4.0, auto cherokee front shaft.
