Short Arm Question
Ok I was just thinking so I figured I would ask. Some people build long arm kits with with 3 links. Like one lower long arm on one side and a long arm with a short arm from it to the top of axle. Now, my question is, not that I plan on doing this, can you take one of your top short arms off and have a everything work well? Would there be any plus to doing that? Also what is the advantage of a 3 link set up rather than 4?
Thanks
Frankie

no, dont do that. that is a bad, bad idea. your axle will probably walk under your truck while you drive. that = bad.
the setup you are talking about (IRO makes a kit like it) is a radius arm setup. a real 3 link has 3 separate arms. i'm a big fan of the factory 4-link setup (although its actually a 5 link..). a true 3 link (like rock krawler's) doesnt bind under flex/load/etc and has good anti-squat characteristics. in reality though, by the time you reach the binding point with any setup, you have way too much flex anyway. some people have issues with blowing up rubber bushings in radius arms setups (since you need rubber bushings in any setup that will bind), others dont.

Yes you can do it. You can remove one top link. It is advisable however to have poly bushings in the top link. The rubber ones will crush quickly. You will get a little bit better articulation due to less binding. I am running a y link on one side and a straight bottom on the other currently.
