You need to be more specific as to which shocks, model numbers and brand and so on. Just asking length open and closed on shocks is to generic to get any sort of an answer.

Stock front XJ (Monroe Sensatrac shock part #37083), is 13.250"
compressed and 21.125" extended

Stock rear XJ (Monroe Sensatrac shock part #37027), is 12.750" compressed and 20.000" extended.

NOTE: These were/are stock replacement numbers from Monroe.
Like OKC stated, lengths vary from model to model AND manufacturer to manufacturer.

On my front I am running Monroes for a YJ Up Country (Monroe Sensatrac shock part #37193), 13.375" compressed and 24.250" extended. 3" longer than thier stock extended length.

I WAS running Commanche Monroe Sensatracs in the rear w/ stock barpin transferred over, but they were noisy. So I switched to the same Commanche shocks in Gabriels and they were about 3/4" shorter
