Shifting issues with code
I'm sorry to post again on this topic, I haven't really collected everything together before:
97 xj aw4, 4x4
code showing is p0705
New nss has been installed, starting in gears is correct, reverse lights are working
The jeep will not shift into 3rd until warm (around 175 degrees, say). Also will be reluctant to shift into 1st until warm (this seems more intermittent than 3rd). Reverse works fine cold.
Help.
Can't register until code is off.

IMO you're going to have to post a clear, concise summary of issues and things you've tried if you expect effective help. You got about 4 or 5 things floating out there.
Things get better when you jiggle stuff. Did you troubleshoot the harness? Check grounds?
It works when you reboot the TCU. Did you troubleshoot the TCU?
Did you change/flush the fluid?
Did you troubleshoot the NSS harness?
Vague symptoms result in...

Ironically enough, your list of questions is the kind of things I am looking for. i.e., places to start exploring.

Alright, after everything, I've found that 'jiggling wires' will cause the light to go off (as suggested by @Dave51).. Last time, it made the light go off for over a day.
By wires, I mean, grab the bundle of three harnesses that come up next to the tranny dipstick, and just move 'em around firmly. After that, about 20 min later, light goes out.
What is that suggesting the root cause is???
Would be amazing to save this Jeep!

Sounds a loose and/or dirty connection in the harness. Disconnect them and look for, and clean, any corrosion you see, and check for any terminals that have backed out. Also look for any damaged wires. When reconnecting them, give the wires a little push to make sure they are seated.
