shifting at 3500rpm
whats up CF i have a 92 cherokee laredo with 122k miles and so far i have had it for 2wks but it has always shifted so high compared to my 2001. so 1st gr shifts at 3500 rpms n then 2-3 3800-4000 rpms when im on the parkway it sits 3000 rpm @ 65mph and my temp reads a little over 210 deg.
well what do you guys think... the only thing i can think of is tranny issue but 2 mechanic have told me it might not be tranny problem. seeing it does not slip... (mech. are not jeep mech. more jap car junkies)
please give me some advise

problem shifting at high rpms
hey, i have the exact same jeep as you, mine did the same thing, you might want to check your spark plugs, your wires, your cap and rotor and all your fluid levels, i spent about 100 dollars on all that stuff, (get the higher price spark plugs totally worth it) and that ended up curing my problem, dunno if maybe my engine was struggling some and thats why but mines been shifting around 2 or 2500 which is nice in consideration mine shifted so late just like yours has been. I mean its up to you whether you want to spend that money to do that, but its definitly not a bad idea especially if you bought it used alot of people dont take care of that maintainance.

tps sensor
my jeep is a 98 and also not shifting till 4500 rpm. my check eng. light said it was my tps. i replaced it and cleared all codes but the light comes right back and said tps sensor. ive checked the wires the best i can and the conector. if i move the wires while its running the jeep runs very rough. i cant find a problem and dont know what to do next. any ideas? thanks

if you have replaced your TPS and light is still on you might need to do a drive cycle put 500miles on that TPS and if that doesnt work restart your ECU or unplug your bat. and see if it clears the code my check engine light was on also but cleared up as soon as i installed the NEW TPS ...

tps
i wish i could put 500 miles on it. but between the bad shift points and the rough running i cant put any miles on it. i did disconect the bat cable for several min. but that did no good. i was thinking that if i have a bad wire thats not allowing the corect imput to the ecu( or where ever they go) this might triger the light to stay on. yes/no. when i move the wires the running get worse but i cant seen to find a broken or corroded wire or anything. thanks for your imput.

Hmmm well i cant really see the wire's get corroded unless it was tapped for some reason. but only thing i can think of is maybe by any chance your spark plug wires are crossed in btween cyclinders but i could be wrong cause of how your explaining it, it sounds like miss-matched wires? check that out worse comes to worste i will buy the jeep from ya
