Anyone know the name of the white balled item located inside the auto trans shifter shaft on a 1996 XJ ??. I am having trouble with the push button on the shifter. I have a photo of it but, can not find a name or parts number anywhere. HELP

 

It's not listed in the parts book so will probly have to be a junkyard part.

 

It's called the shifter interlock solenoid. If you mean the actual white plastic piece inside the mechanism, that's the actuator or plunger
