shackles w/3in. lift? vibrations?
ok, i know there's been several threads like this one, but i have just a few different questions.
i installed my 3inch rough country add a leaf kit with coils and shocks last week. i added some shackles to the rear (1.5 in.) to make up for any future sagging in the leafs. that's 3 inches on the front and around 3.5 on the rear all said and done.
i still need to take the jeep in for a front end alignment and balance.
however, there is a slight vibration in what sounds like my rear drive line. it occurs most frequently when im at speeds above 35mph with my foot resting on and giving some pressure to the gas pedal.
i've seen threads on the transfer case drop kit, which i have mixed feelings about, and the customer service guys at R.C. are suprised this is happening with only 3- 3.5 in of lift, think it could be the u joint.
i put the lift on my self and that's about the extent of my knowledge of the drivetrain on this xj, so any help is much appreciated.

It could be vibes from the lift....It seems every XJ is different. Check all your u joints if one is on it's way out it could be making it worse or making it bind. If you need a lil bit of a drop use washers. It's its as simple as this remove the stock bolts and studs and get 4 10mmx1.5x2 bolts and some heavy duty washers and start stacking you might be able to just put 2 or 3 for a little drop or keep stacking until the vibes go away. I don;t think your gonna need a full inch drop kit.

put the T-case drop kit on there, same thing happened to me when i did what u did. t-case drop fixed.
or change both u-joints in the driveshaft (rear) and see if that helps
alignment is a big need, i dont think it will cause vibrations though, just eat up your front tires QUICK! i'd do the alignment and balance, then u-joints and all that fails, t-case drop!

I was also under the impression that a TC drop was not needed at 3" of lift. Like someone posted, every jeeps different. Mine developed some new vibes after the lift, dropped the TC 1" and they went away.

what is the cost of replacing the u joints
If you wanna upgrade you can get some spicer replacements they run like 40 to 60.
You could also go pull a drive shaft from a junk yard make sure the joints are tight no play in them and swap the shafts to see if your symptoms improve.

I have the exact same setup and I had the same exact problem. I would get death wobble around 40-45 mph and when i let of the gas and slowed down it would stop. My solution that has fixed all vibrations was a new heavy duty steering stabilizer. I got the rough country steering stabilizer.

thanks for the help, i'll probably try transfer case drop first. it seems to be the easiest fix for a budget. after all, she is my daily driver.
