Default Serpitine belt

Just changed belt I have no timing gun but makered the tensioner bolt before changing. The problem I ran into is when putting new belt back on I couldn't move the pulley up far enough where it was before so I tightened the tenisoer bolt to move the pulley up but not sure if it's correct placement is there anyway to tell if it is the right tension?

grab the belt with your fingers and twist. should be able to twist it 90 degrees. Less=too tight & More=too loose
better it be a bit loose, as long as it is not slipping, than over tightened.
YMMV

Always loosen the bolt in the middle of the idler pulley 1st, then make adjustments looser/tighter with the adjusting bolt, then snug up the idler pulley bolt. As stated, run the belt as loose as possible without accessories squealing.

Belt should have no more than 1" deflection at the middle point of the longest distance between 2 pulleys that are farthest apart.

Also, a new belt should be run in for 10 minutes before final tensioning is attempted.

You don't need a timing light and no need to mark the tensioner when changing out the belt.
