serpentine belt question

hey guys I just replaced my S-belt (what a pain that was!)

after I installed it, I took it for a spin and a couple of minutes later, my battery was being drained, so i figured my alternator wasn't charging the battery and I could hear a whining noise under the hood ONLY WHEN I ACCELERATED!

I'm just sorta confused on whether I need to tighten my belt or loosen it.
(i'm going with tighten, but I just want to double check)

my repair manual says make sure that its at 150-200Ibs

Not sure why you had so much trouble with changing the belt, you only loosen 3 bolts on power steering pump and call it good.

It is very possible you have the belt too tight, which could spell doom for you alt. overtightening the belt causes the bearings in the alt to fail and then ultimately not to charge. I am not saying that is what happened in your case though.
