Is there any type of gasket or seal that goes in between te mating surface of the transmission and the transfer case that I need to replace or do they simply mate without

I believe an anaerobic type gasket maker was used at the factory. It was sort of red in color. Anaerobic gasket maker is hard to find. You can use regular RTV type gasket maker.
To use RTV type gasket maker, apply a very thin coating of the RTV to one surface, let set for a few minutes, then assemble the TC adaptor to the trans, torque the adaptor to trans bolts down within 15 minutes.
Edit: Like previously stated, there's no gasket or RTV between the TC and the TC adaptor.
