seized alternator bolt!!
well ive been working all day on this damn alternator bolt thats stuck in!!! its getting me pretty :censored: anyways how can i get it out?! ive used: 4ft breaker bar, impact wrench, 2 cans of liquid wrench, and a big a$$ hammer.
its that bolt that threads right into the bracket (not the top one with a nut that was easy) and now the bolt is rounded..... P.O.S!!! |
wow no one?
|
Hmmm the last time I messed with this I broke the Bracket that screws in to. Had to pick up a new one at the JY. I would just remove the whole brakcet and work on it from a bench. Then once you get it out replace that bolt lol (that should be a given) and lather it down with some anti-sieze.

Get her on on a bench and heat the bolt if an impact won't do the trick.

Just to add. I know it sounds stupid. But also if you can tighten the bolt some to help break it free. Other wise just get another bracket like I did. It would prolly save a lot of time and heartache. |

and if its already rounded just cut it off and get new bracket

I bought this really cool extractor set at Lowes (I think it was Lowes...getting old and memory sucks) It allows you to bite and grab into ANY nut or bolt and won't let go till you break the bolt free or completely off.

can you weld?
If possible, get a grade-8 nut, for say 1/2 bolt.
Weld the nut to the rounded off part. The heat may loosen the bolt and you now have a good attachment part. plan b If the alternator is toast, use an air chisel to bust up the aluminum housing (where the bolt threads in) plan c Bet your friends they can't get it off:party: |
hmm i like the 1st plan......
plan C is a great one! |
heat is your best friend when you have stuck bolts and nuts
