Seat Covers?
What seems to be the best seat covers out there right now? my front seat is close to if not destroyed, but the foam is in decent condition. I am looking for a permanent solution, so not some cheapo neoprene covers. Any suggestions:thumbup:?

Go to an upholstery shop and see what they can do for you.

I recently bought these:
http://www.coverking.com/seat-covers...at-covers.html Moda Custom Seatcover 2-Tone Leatherex, they fit perfectly because they are custom made! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...b13155f3bc.jpg |
Find a set of good factorys and swap. Our covers are removable. Basic idea ...https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/ho...washing-52021/

I considered seat covers and having my seats reupholstered but the least expensive way was to replace them with seats out of another car. These came out of a '03 Hyundai Tiburon. I put a set of the same seats in my TJ too.

best seat cover replacement? katzkins. period. they make a cherokee specific set too. but they are pricey, not some cheepo neoprene covers.

I've got Wet Okole XJ specific covers. They're neoprene, don't know why you mean by "cheap neoprene", but I've had them for 2 years now and couldn't be happier. It was like sitting on a new seat. AutoAnything is a vendor for them and if you use a coupon code can get them for $340-$380 range for both fronts and bench seat.

Sorry, can't find ANY katzkins custom covers for a cherokee XJ :(

For that kind of money (3-$400) you can have an upholstery shop do the seats in the stock material and really do it right. Maybe even less in some areas like mine.

Plus the stock material isn't water resistant. That's why I got neoprene. |
With that type of cover if the seat does get wet it does not dry properly and will cause mildew under it if foam gets wet. It is also abrasive to a bare foam from sitting on it causing chunking.

I got some saddle blanket ones for my 89:

Recently added these Coverking seat covers to my '89 XJ. Cost $165 for the pair in "ballistic black nylon". The fabric is durable, the fit not so great. I had to add a few mini bungees to get them to fit ok. I also had to cut the stock covers where the seat and back meet to provide an opening for these covers to slip through. They'll do, but I'm not amazed. Also, Coverking's customer service is average, meaning: useless.

How much fiddling did it take for these to install?
I don't have any pics of my XJ brackets. I did the same job on my TJ and it was generally the same process. Here is how it looks ... http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/p...ictureid=46458 http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/p...ictureid=46451 Overall it was a pretty easy swap and well worth it. The ride height and seat movement is as original. The comfort is a LOT better! |
How did you get the headrest to release to get the seat cover on?
|
Push button or turn knob .
