Default Searched. Thinking of regearing. Need advice.

I finally replaced my old tires with fresh 31's last week! But, highway driving has become interesting due to the larger tires. 3rd is the new Overdrive! Overdrive is the new downhill option unless there is wind.. Then its back to 3rd downhill. And so forth until I pull it back into 3rd fulltime as any more than 4 downshifts in a row irritate me.

I need some advice on where to look for gears and a locker for the rear. I have 3.55s now. Would like to get either 3.75s or 4.10 in case I ever get 32+s. I sometimes pull a 6x12 trailer with my toys on it about 900 miles in the summer so regearing is needed.

Can anyone suggest where to look for gearsets and lockers? ChryCo 8.25 rear and Dana 30 front. 242 TC and a very tired 4.0. lol

Yes, I plan on keeping the XJ forever so I will throw some serious $ at it for regearing.

New motor is in the works too. It's always something isn't it?

adjust your kick down cable thats what I had to do because I had the same problem. I know hit over drive at 35 and even when running 40 and start accelling it stays right there in over drive like it should. If you dont go bigger then 31s id go 3.73 if you plan on going 33s at any point in the life of your jeep like I am go 4.10s. I have a freind of mine with a 97 with stock gears and 32s and itll smoke the tires. All he has done is a tb spacer and cold air intake. You mite try upgrading to Bocsh fuel injectors It made a big difference in a tired old 89 4.0. I got better mpg throttle response and more get up and go. Every thing else on mine is stock and I can bark my 31s with little problem. Just my 2 cents though.

Your motor is tired and weak...
Hold off on the gear change til you get your power back to normal levels.
My 99XJ has 31x10.5 and 3.55 gears with a healthy motor and no issues with shifting or holding OD, And I can still burn rubber

I have ran 30's with 4.56's... now that was nice. I stayed about the same mpg highway, but city mileage was awesome. Lots of torque.
