Sea Foam?
I've been reading up on Sea Foam on several different sites and I'm thinking about giving it a try but I have a couple hesitations to do it. About 6,000 miles ago I took my valve cover off to replace a leaky gasket. When I removed I revealed a horrible amount of gummy build up. I'm not sure if it was carbon build up, sludge, or just old cheap oil from the PO. I cleaned all the gunk out that I could get to without tearing the engine down any further and then put everything back together. A mechanic at my dad's work told be to add a quart of tranny fluid to my oil and let it idle for a while, drain, repeat, drain, and then add normal oil. This was supposed to help clean out the engine because ATF has cleaning agents in it. My question is whether the Sea Foam could break up any remaining build up and clog up any ports or my oil pump. I'd like my engine to be as clean as possible but not at the risk of clogging something up. Also, it's got 122,000 on it and I was wondering if the seafoam may cause some new leaks. Any experience with a similar situation? Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any input. -Shawn

I just ran seaf foam through my oil, fuel system and the vacuum line, I do it to all my vehicles,. The Jeep was nasty, the previous owner neglected, and sea foam only helped I did the oil change right after and everything drained out, Did it through the vacuum line it smoked like hell, I changed the plugs right after and it made a huge difference, My Yota was actually so carboned up it fouled 2 plugs when I sea foamed it. I beleive in this stuff and use it in everything I own. The tranny fluid trick def works as well, I will be using that here in a few weeks as well as replacing the vc gasket. Plus tranny fluid also swells up seals and slows leaks

i've always been pleased with the use of seafoam. different people have different opinions on it, some people swear by it, others say don't put anything besides necessary oils into your motor. but every once in a while i like to run some through my TB to clean the system out. hasn't failed me yet! ::knock on wood: haha.

I put a splash in my oil about 50 miles before I change it every once in a while, most of the time I just use tranny fluid. Putting in the gas tank cleans fuel system, injectors etc. Putting it through a vacuum line (one that feeds all runners like the one off the brake booster on your XJ) Cleans the inside of the intake, and all carbon on the valves and top of pistons, If done right it does amazing work, The Jeep smoked its *** off. If you get a friend to help you and turn it off while its stumbling really bad while your pouring it in, It will work awesome!
