Sand Wheeling??
how can I prepare my XJ for some sand wheeling, on spring break I found a real cool spot to wheel at, and it happens to be a property of my family,, It has Sand Dunes, some Rocks (not that big Stock suspencion can do just fine), but my worries is the sand, I dont want to get stock...
what can I do to prepare my XJ for some sand? |
AIR DOWN is the key and a steady throttle imput helps. The bigger the footprint, the better flotation.
Airing down will help you the most. Other then that if you find yourself starting to dig into the sand come to a stop and get off of that line. Never break while in the sand just slowing to a stop won't dig you in as much.

Oiradio47 here is a huge sand freak PM him. I'm sure he would be happy to help. Maybe he can chime in.

its all about air-pressure. tire size won't make or break ya. air down to ATLEAST 10lbs. i used to run 7-8lbs in my stock tires. typically run 4-5 in my 33-12.5's. just don't do any donuts with low airpressure. keeping your weight down will help too. don't overload the jeep with stuff you won't need.

OK so instead of the regular 33 psi I have to down it to 10 psi...?
yes sir 10psi should work great for what you have in mind.
thanx kind man,, Ill try it out, as soon as I fix my Tranny..
Be careful about quick turns when you have aired down because the bead of the tire isn't as tight as it normally is which in turn will make it easier for the bead to fall off the wheel.
ok I just went over some pics of the area,, and is sand to rock to sand to rock,, its still ok to airdown my tires so low? Or can I just down them to psi? Ill try it any ways..
try 14-15psi. if it seems like you are not getting enough traction...then go lower. 1-2 psi can make a HUGE difference.
