Rusty's Skid Plates (good deal)

i've found a pretty killer deal on a pair of Rusty's skid plates.....
its the Tranny Skid Plate and the Gas Tank Skid Plate...

anyone have any experience with them to share positive/negative??
also any pics of them mounted would be cool

mcssls 11-02-2010 09:37 PM

they're horrible things to be avoided at all costs.

where are they and I will dispose of them

wildspear 11-02-2010 09:56 PM

I would say any kind of plateing will help a plastic fuel tank. Get them.

sandaddik2 11-02-2010 10:03 PM

there comes a point where metal is metal no matter whos sticker is put on it,
a skid plate is one of them, they do just as good as any other brand who makes a 3/16 skid plate they all grind on rocks the same.
let me know where they are if you dont want them i dont have time to build a set

That Jeep Guy XJMJ 11-03-2010 03:24 PM

yea, i was just curious cuz i've heard bad things about different distributors Fab work and having never gotten a fab part from rustys; just checking my bases....

i'm getting the skid's regardless only cuz of how cheap they are... too good to pass up lol

$100 for the both of em.... like new they're too the point where the paint is barely coming off from use :D:D

mwdouglas 11-03-2010 03:29 PM

wow jump on it asap that's a hell of a price

From what I hear about Rusty's parts I'd think you'd do better to just bolt a cookie sheet on your front end.

I have the engine / trans and transfer case skids, the engine trans is decent, Not a big fan of how the front part mounts but I can deal with it and I have not mounted the transfercase skid, yet bit it mounts with 2 7/16 bolts and 2 3/8 self tapping screws (not sure how that will hold up) but I will look at it before I mount it, did not get the hardware with the skids, they came with my XJ, brand new in the back. For free or real cheap I would jump on them I dont think I wouldorder them new or anything else from Rusty's, I have read some terrible reviews and from the skids I have they are priced cheap on the Rusty's site for a reason.

Maybe you should speak from your own experience before regurgitating what you hear from other people.

All 3 Rusty's skids:

Closer view; the HD crossmember is what holds them together.

I've had Rusty's 3 skids on my XJ for over 3 years now & they have saved my XJ's *** many times. I have dropped the Jeep on rocks with just them holding the XJ up. By now they're gouged and scraped, but they still hold up & their shape has not changed. Mounting is secure too, but I did manage to lose 3 mounting bolts off the t'fercase skid a couple years ago. But that was the fault of the person that mounted the skid.Granted, I would have liked some more rigidity to the t'fercase skid, but if it didn't flex a tiny bit, the recoil would have to go somewhere and I don't want to speculate on where that would be.

The oil change hole in the engine skid is too small. You'll want to cut that wider.

For $100 I would def. get them I mean any type of skid plates can't hurt.

My jeep is held together by rustys parts, I love them and would never not recomend them. Not everyone can afford to pay twice as much for the pretty rubicon express sticker

your an idiot, 3/16 steel is 3/16 steel, its not weak just because of what sticker is put on it when your yuppie buddy bought one:rolleyes:
