Default Rust Hole on Roof Repair

I have a rust hole on the edge of the middle of the roof (near the rain gutter) on the driver's side. It's about an inch in size. I'm doing body work for a new paint job on my XJ and want to know how I can fix the hole the right way so the rust will never come back. Thanks in advance guys

Best to cut it out and replace with good metal. You may find a donor at the jy for that.
Just make sure to get it all out then prep and paint inside and out.

My XJ had the same thing exept i had 2 holes. I cut the rot out and welded sheet metal in. Then bondo, primer, paint and finally clear coat. It looks good too.

as above, cut, weld, grind, bondo, sand, bondo, sand, bondo/honey, sand, primer, paint, and clear coat a couple times to help prevent any future rusting.

make sure with the bondo, the first coat, after a few min when its starting to get hard, use 36-48 grit to get your shape otherwise youll be sanding down for days once it hardens (i learned the hard way) and make sure to pick up some ash or charcol to find your low spots! (too many crappy bondo jobs out here where i live)

Theres another option,
Sand blast the area,
get some wire mesh like used to make animal cages, Tractor Supply, also known as Hardware Cloth.
Cut a small piece to fit behind the hole, and use a wire to hold it is place, pulling out on the wire.
Now use some DynaGlass, its like a bondowith fiberglass in it. Its also waterproof where regular bondo is now.
Now sand it to your liking.

Another trick for finding low/high spots a light mist of black over the spot you've repaired and bondoed flat sanding block over repaired area will show high/low spots.

instead of welding you could use Lord Fuzor panel adhesive.
The big three uses it in new cars.

Its about $50 for two tubes and $200+ for the special gun.
Ive seen guys cut the tubes and just mix them without the mixing gun.

Ill be doing my wife's this way
