Runs, but doesn’t stay that way | 1999 Jeep Cherokee
Hello all,
I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee sport, got it after it had been sitting for 2 years.
I had a 1/4 of a tank of gas in it to start so I put another 1/4 in with some sea foam to degunk the lines. At first I could have it running for about 5 minutes then I would turn it off (I did an engine swap and we were making sure nothing was leaking) so for the first and last test drive I took it out and I drove it for about 15 minutes I had it running and then the engine starts to bog down and die, I attempt to start it back up again and it will start for about 2 seconds at 800 rpm and then buck and die. I can hear the fuel pump and it does have pressure. When I leave it sitting for a couple of hours I can start it back up again, this most recent run I started it and went for 4 grand and held it there for about 30 second and then it bogged down and died again. Any ideas? If you want a video or photos I can do that!

ps I did end up putting a little mor gas in, it’s at almost 3/4s of a tank. Thanks!!

Did you replace the air filter? Also maybe the throttle body is all gunked up, might wanna clean that, and the IAC as well...Bogging can be attributed mostly to poor fuel and air delivery in my opinion...Seafoam will bang out those injectors but not if you can't keep it running. Those are my quick minor suggestions/ good luck!

thanks for the help, i’ve been driving it reliably since then and th issue was the ICV wasn’t plugged in all of the way.

I think the problem is in your 1st sentence… yet set for 2 years. Before you expected to run like a champ you may have to put in some time cleaning some parts. I think you did a good thing with the sea phone but how old is the gas?

it’s been through a few tanks of gas since then, the gas was 2 years old, i did end up draining most of it out and going and filling up all the way. but i’ve had it registered and now i’m dealing with the wires snapping in the door.
