running hot
my xj is running on average 220...i just put a 165 degree tstat in it and its still going over 220..sometimes it hits 240..can i run anything in the radiator that will help..its scaring me a little bit
XJs run hot
not that hot though, flush the entire system
is there any flush that you recommend
i used the simple garden hose flush on my old XJ. if you buy the flush kit from advance it gives you step by step directions on that back i believe, my stepdad just did it to his silverado
when you changed the tstat did you burp the system really good? check your fan clutch as well
burp. i had to wait till mine cooled off then take one of the heater core hoses off the t-stat housing and fill it and the head to the brim then stick it back on real quick to burp mine.
normal temp is 195 to 210 on an XJ
no i didnt burp the system..how do i do that
the fan spins..i put my fingers a little to close and it nearly took them off haha
let it idle and come to temp with the radiator cap off so all the air bubbles out, once it stops bubbling top it off replace the cap. Its a new cap right?
its not a new cap ..and the one on it is corroded a little bit
get a new one, checking the fan clutch it should be hard to spin by hand when the motor is hot,and off.

Mine was running really hot also. I did a flush on mine and even added Redline water wetter and it didn't help. I bought a CSF 3 core rad and now mine rarely hits 210. Usually stays around 180.
