Rough idling and stalls when braking.
I have a 2000 jeep cherokee 4.0 L and the other day I pulled into my drive way and my jeep stalled. I could get it started if I pushed on the gas pedel and I had to keep it above 1000 rpm to keep it going to get the jeep in my garage.
A couple hours later I went out in the garage and it started just fine and idled just fine. If I go driving out in town, when I get to the first stop sign or light and I take my foot off the pedel my jeep stalls. Sometimes it idles just fine in my garage but when I go driving it can barely idle without stalling. When I am driving it runs perfectly.
I am really confused on what it might be. I thought it was the altenator and I did a test at autozone but the employee didn't give me a definitive answer. He just said I was on the right track. I did a fuel pressure test and the pressure is fine but when its idling the needle on the pressure gauge vibrates between 43-45 psi ( is it normal for the needle on the pressure gauge to vibrate when the jeep is idling, or should it be still at all times?). My pressure should read between 44-54 psi according to the fuel pressure booklet.
I think it might be the filter or the fuel pressure regulator but I think those are both located on the fuel pump. I am just really confused on what it is, because sometimes it idles fine, if I am not driving, or when I am driving it dies when I stop, and driving it runs great. If anyone has any idea I would really appriciate some info.
