Almost every time I start this 1998 Jeep Cherokee (even when it is hot) it will rough idle about a minute after I start it and will last about three to four minutes then goes away. The rough idle will not come back until I restart it.

I have checked for engine codes even though I do not get an engine light and saw nothing as expected, while I had the code checker plugged in I went ahead and reset the ECU. I have also cleaned the carburetor and used fuel injector cleaner over the past three tanks of gas. I have done some light searching but some advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Try to wrap your fuel rail in some of the heat wrap like you would use on headers, there is a tsb recall on that it causes that problem

If there is a recall on a part would they replace it for free at a dealership?

What's the year? I've got a 99 that had a similar problem. Wouldn't throw codes but almost sputtered out when it was idling at start. According to my mechanic the pre-cat o2 sensor was acting lazy when it would switch to "run" mode from "warm up" mode. He informed me to replace it with a factory direct replacement sensor and I have been rough idle free since September of 2011. Might be worth checking. Part was only like $110. Good luck

Your probably right on the o2 I know mine are bad plus PO cut the cat off so I have to replace it and the muffler before I replace o2s

I got a new cat from magnaflow. Only cost $120. I also went with a Gibson cat back exhaust. I really like my set up but there is a lot to choose from. Good luck with the fix.
