Of course he did. We're talking about a rearend here. Seals are outside of axle bearings which are lubricated by the gear oil.

Then why is there no sign of leaking? It would be coming out of the axle tubes if I did.

once it heats up in there it'll start coming out the breather hose. if that is plugged at all you will blow out your axle seals

This is true fact.

Dont ask me how i know, just know that I know.

5 quarts is a lot too much.

actually i do beleive rockkrusher was making covers since before solid axle was a company.

i heard from somewhere that solid took over rk or bought their deisign rights or something, then rockkrusher was out of the rearend game for a couple years.

Where is the breather hose located on the C8.25? I was told to keep putting fluid in it till I could feel it through the fill hole. Do you think i should stick a fluid pump in there and try and take some out?

okcjeeper Mar 24, 2009 12:34 PM

I am with the others here, 5 qts is way to much for that diff.. The D35 calls for less then 2 qts and the 8.25 right at 2 qts..I couldn't imagine 5 qts of oil in there would even fit. I know these aftermarket covers have higher fill holes to hold a little more but not 3 qts more.

Belto Mar 24, 2009 01:05 PM

well I put in about 3qts... if I need to put more in I will but IDK. you guys tell me..

here the pics.. of the process

I'd say 3 qts is plenty and wouldn't add any more. Looks good, did you clean everything up with some brake cleaner? I still need to put my Solid Axle diff covers on.

ktmracer419 Mar 24, 2009 02:32 PM

the higher diff hole is for rotated axle housings for a better pinion angle, to get the right amount of fluid in there.

look at the stock fill hole. the bottom should be a wee bit higher than the bottom of the axle tubes. that is sufficient to lube the bearings.

breather hose is the only hose coming out of the axle.

Belto Mar 24, 2009 02:52 PM

yeap was clean and dandy..

x2. If you look at where the stock fill hole is and compare that to the Rockcrusher one, you can see why Northline would have gotten 5 qts in there. He would have almost filled the axle tubes whereas stock it barely lets any into them. 3qts should be fine.

Should I pump some fluid out? Ive been running it has it has been for almost a month now and havent had any problems yet.

If you've been driving it regularly for a month and it hasn't leaked its probably fine. To be on the safe side, I'd make sure your breather tube isn't clogged and if it does anything it will overflow though the breather. If the breather is clogged, you run the risk of blowing out axle seals.

northline76 Mar 24, 2009 03:33 PM

Ok well later today I will check the breather tube. I will know for next time no more then a quart over stock.
