Default RMS looks different

Changing my oil pan and gasket today so I decided to go ahead and change the RMS while I'm in here. I got this seal from Advance Auto. And as you can tell it's different.

It still goes in and everything. I think it fits better than the one I just took out. Could one of the POs have already changed it and put the wrong one in? Every video, picture and whatever I've looked at the seal looked like the one I bought. I'm working on getting the top side out now to see if it's different as well.

'00-'01 don't have the "wings" on the cap-side. Both halves are identical. You removed the correct one. Some people have cut the wings off and made it work.
Parts store sold you the incorrect rms for your MY.

Great so I don't really wanna cut this one to try and make it work. Guess I'll just have to get the correct one.

Understood. Look at the bright side: You learned something. Never take an inexperienced parts counter persons word for anything. They can only tell you what their database tells them.

Yep. Their website says this part number is a direct fit but no it's not. Every time I work on this thing I learn something new.
