replacing thermostat
My 1994 jeep Sport needs a new thermostat. Can I replace it my self? How hard is it to fix it? Anywhere I can look to fix it? thanks...

super easy, you should invest in a haynes repair manual. it well tell you step by step how to replace anything really and there only like 20-25 bucks at autozone or checker.
|
cool, thanks. Are most repairs fairly easy on a Jeep?
|
Some are, some aren't. Standard maintenance stuff, piece of cake. But anything major, maybe beyond the standard tune-up mechanical aptitude.
+2 on the Hayne's. Consider it your Cherokee "bible". |
dude i have two of them. one in my jeep and one under my pillow :)

LOL! Just messin' But you have a good point. Know how to use the Hayne's..........and the intimate secrets of your Cherokee will open up to you. But just like good lovin', don't be afraid of getting a bit dirty. Damn! New sig line. |
One caveat when dealing with 4.0 thermostat housing.
Make sure you tighten the bolts equally, DO NOT TORQUE ONE DOWN THEN THE OTHER. You will need a new housing if you do. It will break an ear off the housing. I've broke two so far. :( I as being extra careful on the second and still broke it. YOu can get the bottom bolt out without removing the belt and back in if your careful too. |
that was a line from the jeep gods ha x2 on the dont be afraid of gettin dirty thats how we learn:)
|
Checkin' to see if the new sig works.... Yep.....

X3 on the Haynes book and IMO replace your 195* thermostat with a 180* No need to run the motor that hot unless we are trying to pass emissions.
|
And when you start doing mods on your XJ. Loose the haynes manual and get "Eric's" book . http://ericsxj.com/

I wonder if anyone has ever found the ten commandments of Jeeps lol.
