Default replacing slave cyc. need some tips

my son has a 88 jeep with a 5 speed 4.0, slave cyc leaks and im replacing it and just need some tips. Ive been working on chevy 4x4's for over 25 years. but just thought some tips would be nice. i have both driveshafts removed. should i seperate the transfer case fromt the trans? for it would be easer in my garage. another question is: how many bellhousing bolts are there and the best way to get to them. as with the transfer case. any help would be great. thanks, curt

if your by yourself and dont have a trans jack, then i suggest separating the t-case from the trans.

there are 2 e12 bolts at the top, 2 16mm bolts on the side, 2 18mm bolt/nuts at the bottom, then 2 more 10mm screws on the engine side holding the dust plate to the trans, along with i think 3-4 small screws on the bottom dust shield.

extensions and a breaker bar work best if you dont have handtools, and you can get the best access to them by just letting everything be supported by the motor mounts.

basically
1remove starter
2remove crossmember,and support transmission
3remove 4wd linkage
4 disconnect all connections, speedo cable, and vent tubes
5 drain trans and t-case\
6 unbolt crank sensor
7 unhook slave cylinder lines
8 unbolt t-case and remove
9 unbolt transmission shifter
10 remove all dust shield screws
11 unbolt trans and remove
12 remove and replace slave
13 reverse to install
