Default replacing side view mirror - XJ

after flopping my XJ on its side this past Sunday I need to replace the driver side mirror. it is manual and break away (now break off LOL)

i see three screw heads on the outside.

I imagine the interior trim piece needs to come off to release the manual adjustment ****.

question: do i have to remove the entire door panel or is the mirror trim piece separate? Id like to know before I go break something out of frustration. LOL

I ask because the FSM doesnt show it being one piece.....but Im not confident.

Try to isolate the problem. Take the door panel off. Inspect the situation from the inside. If nothing is there take the outside screws out. If it doesnt come out try the interior panel take it off or tinker with it. Good luck.

Yes you need to pull the door panel lose to get to the mounting screws, i think there is also a set screw holding the mirror adjuster **** in place. Sounds worse than it is just be careful removing panel, there is several plastic push pins holding it on.

thats what the FSM states...but their photograph does not show the interior trim panel and the interior mirror cover panel being one piece...thus why the confusion.

There separate pieces but the door panel still needs to be removed, it's not real difficult. I used trim panel pullers on mine they worked great, but you could probably use screw drivers instead.
