Replacing: Oil Pressure sender

I need to change the Oil Pressure Sender of my XJ 88 2.5 Lit. but i changed the instrument cluster from Lights to gauges, so, which Oil pressure sensor i have to buy?

You need the oil pressure sender. You now have a switch.

James, also you likely need the the temp sender, (rear left on-top of the head) for a gauge. CAREFUL there with that. Might take a 6 point deep 7/16 or 11mm to be sure you don't have a stripped thing in an ugly place to deal with. :furious::saddam::furious::yes: 0R MAYBE IT'S 3/8" ?

Wow! now im confused! haha im a newbie, i just think about replace the light sensor to Gauge Sensor, the same thing i did with the temp gauge.

Not so confusing really. Gauges use a variable resistor setup to incrementally move the gauge needle. Lights just have a switch, on/of. As I understand it that's only those two, the temp and oil senders that need changed for gauges. (the light temp sender hooked to a gauge cluster still fire the temp gauge up when it's too hot.....I think)

BTW, as cool as gauges seem, I myself prefer a red light on the dash as I rarely watch those while driving. One 90 with lights is fine. Another with gauges is often saying it's hot with low oil pressure. It seems to be fine also. Both are running great at well over 200K.

Also remember to just use the thread compound that is on the unit or a very small amount of thread tape, on the last half of the threads, leave the first few threads clean, otherwise it will not conduct correctly and give false readings. It has to make electrical contact with the block to work as it should.

rectorseal aka rectomseal. Excellent point Jeb. If it were actually insulated from contact with Teflon tape it would not work. With just two or three wraps it would still make contact though, I'd think.

Just to be doubly clear. You didn't mention having changed the temp sender, (for an aftermarket gauge?). When changing the cluster you do need to change both. Sorry if I seem confusing.
